Educational Partnerships Policy

Section 1 - Background and Purpose

(1) To facilitate the development, execution and management of educational partnerships between La Trobe University and partner institutions in Australia and internationally.

  2. Staff and students involved in educational partnership arrangements

Section 3 - Policy Statement

(3) The University is committed to developing a range of educational partnerships that are mutually beneficial to the parties involved. Educational partnerships address barriers to learning, are socially just and socially inclusive. Partnerships are student-focussed and enhance the learning experience for both current and potential La Trobe students and the students of partner institutions through structured programs developed in consultation with partners.

(4) This Policy and attendant procedures establish La Trobe University processes for developing, executing, documenting and managing partnerships with third parties and ensure compliance with the University’s obligations under Australian and international laws and regulations.

(5) The University may enter educational partnerships in the following categories:

  1. Articulation agreements, where students having completed a course of study at a partner institution are provided with advanced standing towards a La Trobe course of study; 
  2. Third Party Teaching agreements, where La Trobe students are enrolled in a La Trobe award or non-award course of study while based in whole or part at the partner’s premises; 
  3. Student mobility agreements, where La Trobe students are provided with opportunities to undertake a study experiences, including placements and internship opportunities, either at the premises of or facilitated by the partner; 
  4. Courseware Licensing agreements, where La Trobe courseware is provided to the partner institution for incorporation into the partner institution’s courses; and
  5. Other educational agreements, which establish a formal arrangement between La Trobe and the partner institution in areas not covered by any of the preceding categories and including, but not limited to, shared services, professional development in teaching and learning and pathways for the partner’s students to enter a La Trobe course of study.

(6) All partnerships will be supported by a formal agreement between the University and the partner institution. The process by which agreements are established and managed is outlined in attendant procedures.

Section 5 - Definitions

(8) For the purpose of this Policy:

  1. Agreement: A signed contract between the University and a partner institution. 
  2. Partnership: A relationship between the University and a partner institution that is supported by one or more agreements.

Section 6 - Stakeholders

Responsibility for implementation – Pro Vice-Chancellor (International); Pro Vice-Chancellor Regional; College Pro Vice-Chancellors (Academic Partnerships); Executive Director, Quality and Standards.
Responsibility for monitoring implementation and compliance – Executive Director, Quality and Standards.
